Not a pretty sight

So remember that one time I was going to move to New York? And there was a room? And I had a job interview at a chocolatier? Basically everything was falling into place, right?

And then

And then

That's actually what I looked like after TWO doses of prednisone. But wait, it get's better. Want to know what I looked like after four days?

Umm, I'm pretty sure that's not how it's supposed to go. So I went to the doctor and the doctor was all "this is not a typical reaction to poison oak, are you sure it was poison oak?" and I was like "Seriously? Would I be here if I was having a typical reaction to whatever the fuck I'm having a reaction to?". Except not really because I actually really like my doctor and she's quite nice. So then they sent some pictures over to dermatology because Kaiser is all "wooo, technology, why see someone when we have a digital camera?". Then they shot me up with some Kenalog and now my face looks like this!

Ok, yeah it's pretty sad when you get excited that all your skin is peeling off and you're not bright red. But look! I have eyes! Unfortunately the doctor was not into the idea of me getting on a plane tomorrow. Especially since I got better when I first went on steroids and then got worse again. Also, this is what the rest of me looks like.

And there are actual for real many tiny blisters between all my fingers, so I'm thinking I can't make chocolates on Sunday anyways.

Right now I've cancelled my flight. I'm not rescheduling because I don't want to jinx myself and also because of some gibberish about stress and heightened histamine response and I think I'll be less stressed if my focus is on getting better, not on a deadline by which I have to see everyone and have all my shit done. This is obviously not the most convenient thing in the world for rescheduling my trial or for Mia to know when I'm showing up in her house but I feel like this is one of those times where I have to listen to my body and just calm the fuck down or risk being hivey for weeks.

Oh, and if I don't get better, I get to see the allergist! Weeee!

No sleep till Brooklyn

December 9 – Party Prompt: Party. What social gathering rocked your socks off in 2010? Describe the people, music, food, drink, clothes, shenanigans. (Author: Shauna Reid)

No Pants

Today is a pics or it didn't happen post. Like I said, I was pretty much a hermit, so don't how much is really going to be here.

This is a bunch of people in Union Square (the one in NYC, though it's also done in SF) with no pants on. If you want to learn more about taking your pants off on public transportation, click here (totally safe for work).

This is me in a bar with no pants on and some people we had just met that day. Because there is nothing more normal than taking your pants off and getting drunk with strangers.

Birthday Shenanigans

Dinner and drinks round 1 where Jacob introduces Ruby and me to...

Belushi's Breakfast- Bulleit Bourbon, Death & Taxes and espresso with a peanut brittle rim. This was my favorite drink for the year when I still had time to go out and get drinks.

This is to provide some perspective- I only take my pants off when appropriate. Though it may have been just as cold in New York as this vodka bar back in Petaluma where they give you fur coats to wear.

Later on at the wine bar because Petaluma seems to believe that unless there's a ridiculous number of deer heads on the wall, bars should stick to only serving one type of alcohol. I don't have any pictures of the tequila bar where we started out.

On an unrelated note- man, my hair is really long now guys.

Family birthday. S'mores in a jar. That is all.

The whole gang

I don't really know what's going on here, I just really like this picture. I do vaguely remember this brunch time being accompanied by really cheap bloody mary's.

The amount of sugar in these margaritas makes you feel sick long before the booze does. Be warned.

Because the only place I will ever wear this dress is in Vegas. It's just so damn sparkly. Also, free champagne!

Does this really need a caption?

The wedding that goes with that bachelorette party

Where I don't really get to party because by the time the ceremony is done, the food is eaten and the cake is cut I have been up thirty something hours due to a combination of getting off work at ten that morning and spending the week making the wedding cake.

And then we just take a giant leap forward to Halloween

My friend Brian and his creepy horse mask.

Yes, I was a cat. At least my Halloween costume was less lazy than Matt's. We were at Lucha Va Voom at the Fillmore which was pretty much one of the most ridiculous things ever.

That's it guys, not only are those the social gatherings that rocked my socks off, but that's basically all of the social gatherings I went to this year. High five.

My Peacock Costume

Img_0226_2 So here's my how to for making my AWESOME and fairly easy peacock costume.

All you need is a leotard, a tutu, about 25 (or more) peacock feathers, thread and rhinestones.

I also found a premade thing of feathers on a stick to use in my hair at the craft store but you could make your own with some more peacock feathers and flexible wire probably.

Img_0227 I started to attach the feathers by making a single stitch through the feather and the waistband of the tutu.

Img_0233Then I stitched around and into the waistband to secure the feather.

Img_0236_2 I attached eight feathers around initially to give me an idea of how to space it evenly.

Dsc02686 This is how full it was with 25ish feathers. If I had had more money and inclination I probably would've used more but I think it was a pretty good amount to start with. Next year I'll probably add some more to it.

There isn't a picture, but I glued rhinestones over the stitching to cover it up and add a little sparkle. In truth, they're barely noticeable.

And the completed look:

I used Special Effects fishbowl and blue velvet to dye my hair.

My eye makeup all came from Target. I just tried to find the colors that best matched the colors in a peacock feather.

Not the most flattering picture but the best to see my cool head feathers and my friend Elise's fantastic cardinal costume to give you some more bird costume inspiration.
